About the Teacher: I am a proud graduate of Struthers High School. I attended Youngstown State University earning my B.S. in Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I received my Masters Degree in Reading Supervision from Youngstown State University. I taught at St. Nicholas Elementary School before coming to Struthers in 1986.
About the Class: My goal is to engage the children in activities which help them to understand and feel confident in my class. Instruction is designed to encourage enthusiasm for the small successes we build on daily. Grade 5 Math classes are directly correlated to Ohio’s Content Standards. We cover all of the strands designated by the state, covering much more than basic skills. Thinking skills and problem solving are fostered through hands on activities and classroom interaction.
A binder is used to encourage the structure and organization for Math class needs. Homework is designed to encourage practice as well as time management. Grades are determined through weekly quizzes, classroom assessments, projects, and bonus points for homework completion and preparedness.
We will be “celebrating” and learning from two upcoming math events, Pi Day in March and Beach Day in April. I may be asking mom and dad to assist! If I can assist you in any way to make your child’s year more productive don’t hesitate to call.
