Welcome to the Library Media Center at Struthers Elementary School. All students, faculty and staff are invited to use the library during school hours. We encourage all to take advantage of the many resources, materials the library has to offer. The following information and rules will help you understand how the library works and the services provided in the Library Media Center at SES.
Policies of the Struthers Elementary School Library Media Center
1. Students in grades 1-4 are scheduled for library once a week.
2. Students in Kindergarten are scheduled for library twice a week. They check out books during their first visit, and have an activity in the “Pit Area” their second visit.
3. Students must display good conduct while in the library.
4. Materials borrowed from the library must be checked out using the appropriate procedure. Books are checked out for 1 week.
5. Lost or damaged material is the responsibility of the borrower. The cost for a lost book is $10.00 for hardcover books and $4.00 for paperback books. The replacement cost will be charged for lost magazines.
6. Report cards will be held in the office at the end of the grading period until all overdue library materials are returned or paid for.
7. Students are expected to push in chairs, return materials, or discard trash before leaving the library.
8. Students should not eat or drink in the library.
Upon leaving SES, students will have learned library skills and the 4 sections of the library; fiction, non-fiction, reference and biography. They will know that Fiction books are arranged alphabetically by the author’s last name and that Non-fiction books are arranged by the Dewey Decimal System. Those books are assigned a number based on its subject and are arranged in numerical order on the shelves.
They will also know different types of Reference books and that Biographies are arranged in alphabetical order by the person’s last name whose life is being written about.
