Welcome to the 2011- 2012 school year! Our entire staff here at Struthers Middle School is looking forward to a positive, enjoyable, productive year.

In order to better assist our young adolescents, our school program has been designed around a middle school concept that recognizes the unique intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs of our developing learners. This is a time of great change and although these changes are exciting, they can also be challenging and require additional support in order to make these years a meaningful experience.

As a staff, we believe that each child will be provided a quality education for the 21st Century. This begins with educational programs that are researched based and are taught conceptually. Today’s students are asked to create, manipulate and use information to solve real-life problems. Assessments are not solely teacher-created tests; instead we use portfolios or collections of work that shows students' understandings and growth over time.

We are pleased at the success our students have exhibited in a wide variety of areas including academics and extra-curricular activities. We are proud of the efforts our students make in building their life skills by practicing mutual respect, caring for others, and respecting their peers, teachers and support staff. We continue to encourage our students to practice responsible behavior in and out of the classroom. At Struthers Middle School, we believe in “10 Days Out of 10,” which simply means we promise that the students will be treated with respect and dignity every single day.

We encourage you to keep the lines of communication open, with all of us, to explore insights concerning your child’s success and well-being. Have a great school year!
