Struthers Students Participate in Champion Day

Champion Day 2022

Seven Struthers students experienced a memorable day on the field at Canfield’s Champion Day on September 15.

Students were hosted by Canfield student athletes, getting the opportunity to experience the thrill of being on the field and learn about various sports, how to participate, and the effort it takes to be on a team with practice and games. “The students were very surprised at how much dedication these school athletes put into being a member of the team,” says Richard Basile, Special Education teacher at Struthers High School.

Basile went on to explain that this event has encouraged his students who participated to get involved in activities at Struthers- participating in sports, extracurricular groups, or community events. He said that it shows them they can be part of a group. “We have had students joining clubs that they wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for this event,” he said.

“We are so appreciative of Canfield’s invitation, and are impressed with the genuine interactions and friendliness of the Canfield student-athletes who hosted,” said Amanda Ford, Coordinator of Special Services for Struthers City Schools.
