Local Senior Citizens Enjoy Appreciation Dinner at SHS

Senior Citizens Dinner

November 19, 2021

The Struthers Board of Education welcomed 140 community members at its Senior Citizen Appreciation Dinner at Struthers High School cafeteria on Thursday, November 18.

The guests sat among festive tables decorated for fall and Christmas as they enjoyed the company of their friends and conversations with Struthers City Schools administration team members and board members. The administration and board members brought each guest a plate filled with a hearty feast of ham (prepared by Nemenz IGA) accompanied by scalloped potatoes, green beans, rolls and dessert prepared by the school’s foodservice team. They also served coffee to order.

At the conclusion of the event, each of the district’s guests received a raffle item - from fall and holiday decor, to gift cards, to candy. All of the giveaways were generously donated by businesses and community members.

“We are happy to see the event return to a dine-in experience this year,” says Superintendent Pete Pirone. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to say thank you and stay connected with this group of our community, many of whom have been deeply rooted in the Struthers community for decades, some even raising generations of their families that have been - and still are - Struthers students.”

The dinner and prizes were made possible through the generous support of Nemenz IGA, Giannos Candy, Endtime Grafix, Nancy Gough, Vicki Demyan, Bob Granchie, Betsy Kopp, Chris Granchie, along with the Struthers City School District administrative team.

“We owe so much to the community,” says board member Mary Carcelli. “It’s nice to spend this time with them and share our deep appreciation for their continued support of our schools and our students.”
