5th Grade – WEB Program

SMS is excited for our WEB - "Where Everyone Belongs" program.  WEB is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes 5th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience.  WEB will kick off with the upcoming 5th grade students participating in a fun filled orientation where they will meet their 8th grade WEB leaders on Thursday, August 4 from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Parents need to drop off their child at 9 a.m. and pick them up at 11:30 a.m. at SMS.

SCHEDULES 2022-2023

Schedules will be issued prior to the first day of school.  Students in 5th grade can pick up their schedules after the WEB orientation on Thursday, August 4 at 11:30 a.m.  Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade will need to pick up their schedules on Wednesday, August 10 between 9 AM and 11 AM at Struthers Middle School.

OPEN HOUSE 2022-2023

Open house for the 2022-2023 school year will be Wednesday, August 17 from 2-4 PM.  Come and meet your child’s new teacher.  Students will get their locker assignments and be able to prepare their locker.  Students can bring their supplies to their homerooms.

8th GRADE HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT

SMS will continue to offer high school credit to 8th grade students in the following subjects: Health, physical education, Algebra, and family & consumer science.  This credit will count towards their high school G.P.A.

TDAP BOOSTER – 7th GRADE

Ohio Department of Health Rules dictate that all seventh-grade students must have a Tdap booster.  This is because of the increase in pertussis cases (whooping cough). Please schedule an appointment with your doctor, Youngstown City Health Department (330-743-3333, ext. 259) or the District Board of Health (330-270-2855, ext. 121).  Record of the shot needs to be returned to the school nurse as soon as possible.  Thank you for your cooperation.

DROP-OFF PROCEDURE

Students walking to school or arriving by car should plan to arrive at school by 7:50 AM. Parents who are driving students may enter the parking lot using the entrance on Wilson Street nearest 5th Street and drop off children as close to the end of the building (the band room) as possible. By doing this, we can get more cars into our lot and off the street.  This will also help the line move faster.  Thank you for your patience during drop-off.  Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:15 AM.  Breakfast begins at 7:15 AM.

IMPORTANT – SECURITY

Just a reminder that when any adult is entering the building to pick-up a child or attend a meeting, you must have a driver’s license or picture ID.  This ID will be scanned through the RAPTOR system and a visitor’s badge will be issued to the adult.  This procedure is for the safety and security of the children.  THANK YOU!!!

Washington DC Parent Meeting

Parent meeting on Wednesday, August 17 at 4 PM in the auditorium.
