SMS Student Retains Title "Champion"

Struthers Middle School Spelling Bee Winner and Runner Up 2021

Struthers 8th grader Christopher Dominic continues to reign the Struthers Spelling Bee Champion after the Middle School’s annual Spelling Bee last week.

Through 12 rounds, eighth grade students Christopher Dominic and Isabella Sahli were the remaining students. With the correct spelling of the final word, ‘floe’, Dominic secured his fourth Struthers Spelling Bee win over the past five years at the district.

With the district wins, Dominic has also made several appearances in the Regional Spelling Bee at YSU. His first appearance in the regional bee was in third grade, where he earned 5th place. Last year, Dominic not only won the SMS and WFMJ Regional Spelling Bees, but went on to win preliminary rounds for the national bee, making it to the quarterfinals until met with the word ‘offertory.’

He studies all released words from spellingbee.com and SCRIPPS, and adds to his vocabulary through dictionary.com as he prepares for each competition.

Dominic will represent the district at the WFMJ Regional Spelling Bee in March.
