Struthers Students to Represent School in Regional Spelling Bee in March

Ella Mercer and Elijah Halverstadt will represent Struthers City Schools at the 12WFMJ Regional Spelling Bee in March.

On Wednesday, November 30, twenty-three third- and fourth-grade students at Struthers Elementary School participated in the building’s annual spelling bee. After twenty rounds of spelling, Elijah Halverstadt was named the winner with the championship word ‘serum.’

Ella Mercer, a fifth-grade student at Struthers Middle School, was named champion in the building’s October spelling bee after eight rounds with the correct spelling of the word ‘communion’

In March, Halverstadt and Mercer will represent Struthers City Schools at the 21WFMJ Regional Spelling Bee at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown.

Fourth-grade students Elijah Halverstadt and Rylie Hill spent ten rounds as the final two spellers in the Struthers Elementary Spelling Bee in November 2022 before being named winner and runner-up, respectively.
