Robotics

The SMS robotics club will begin later this fall. It is where students spend time after school learning more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Every year we participate in a competition that is hosted and run through Youngstown State University. Each year, YSU comes up with games that present multiple challenging tasks for our students to try and accomplish. There are multiple aspects that go along with the competition such as building a robot, programming the robot, keeping a journal log, and being able to present your work. All in all, it is a fun and educational time for our students.

YSU English Festival

The YSU English Festival is a unique annual program reaching out to approximately 3,000 junior and senior high school students from Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania. Though the English Festival takes place in the spring, its effects are felt throughout the school year.

Each fall middle school students sign up to become part of the festival group. They will each reach seven books selected by the University and meet with their teachers and group to discuss and share ideas about the books. In April, when we attend the YSU English Festival where we meet the authors and visit displays and activities using the books we have read.

See Mrs. Kuntz during advisory to join.
